9-21-11: Cliff was awarded the
Steve Carlton (Most Valuable Pitcher) Award
by the Philadelphia Baseball Writers.
9-5-11: Cliff became the first
pitcher to record six shutouts in a season
since Randy Johnson in 1998. He also became
the fourth Phillies left-hander to record
200 strikeouts in a season.
8-31-11: Cliff went 5-0 with a
0.45 ERA in August to become the third
pitcher in Major League history to have two
months in one season with five wins, zero
losses and an ERA under one (Walter Johnson
in 1913 and Bob Gibson in 1968).
7-5-11: Cliff was named the NL
Pitcher of the Month for June after going
5-0 with a 0.21 ERA in 5 starts.
7-3-11: Cliff was selected for the
2011 MLB All-Star game.
6-28-11: Cliff ran his career-best
scoreless streak to 32 innings while
becoming the first Phillies pitcher to throw
three straight shutouts since Hall of Famer
Robin Roberts did it in 1950. He finished
June 5-0 with a 0.21 ERA in five starts,
only the fifth major league pitcher since
World War II to go 5-0 with an ERA of 0.21
or better in a month.
5-6-11: Cliff struck out a career
high 16 batters in only 7.0 innings vs
Atlanta.
4-1-11: Cliff appeared on the cover of
Sports Illustrated!
3-30-11: Cliff finished spring
training with a 2-2 record, 4 walks, 16
strikeouts, 19 innings and a 4.74 ERA in 5
starts.
12-15-10: Cliff signed a
five-year, $120 million contract (with a
$27.5 million vesting option for 2016) with
the Philadelphia Phillies.
10-23-10: Cliff was selected to
the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame class of
2011.
10-18-10: Cliff became the first
pitcher in MLB history to reach double
digits in strikeouts three times in a single
postseason and the fourth to have at least
13 strikeouts and allow two hits or fewer.
He is the third pitcher to start his
postseason career with a 7-0 record, joining
Orlando Hernandez (8-0) and Orel Hershiser
(7-0). Cliff tied Bob Gibson's record of
consecutive 10+ K games in the postseason
with 3 and his 5th career postseason game
with at least 10 strikeouts is tied with
Randy Johnson and Bob Gibson for the most
all-time.
10-12-10: Cliff led Texas to their
first ever playoff series win in a series in
which the road team won every game -- a
first in major league history. His 21
strikeouts is an ALDS record and he tied
Lefty Gomez for the third-most consecutive
postseason decisions won as a starter (6) to
begin a career in MLB history. Cliff's 21
strikeouts and zero walks in his 2 starts in
the ALDS is the most strikeouts without a
walk in a single postseason series all-time.
10-6-10:
Cliff became the 10th pitcher in
postseason history to win each of his 1st
5 decisions as a starter and the 4th
pitcher in the Live Ball Era to toss at
least 7 innings in each of his 1st 6
postseason starts. He became the first
pitcher in MLB history to have 10
strikeouts and no walks in a Game 1 road
win twice in his career. It was the third
time Cliff has pitched at least 7 innings
with no walks and at least 10
strikeouts...only three other pitchers
have posted a line of 7 IP, 0 BB and 10 K
in postseason history: Tom Seaver 1973

10-3-10:
Cliff ended the season with a walk rate of
0.76 per nine innings, the lowest for any
pitcher with 200 innings since Red Lucas
in 1933.
8-16-10:
Cliff set the modern baseball record for
most strikeouts in a season before issuing
his 10th walk. Curt Schilling had 140
strikeouts in 2002, Cliff got to 143.
8-6-10:
Cliff got his 100th career major league
victory!
7-22-10:
Cliff got his 1,000th career major league
strikeout when he struck out Torii Hunter of
the Angels.
7-9-10:
The Texas Rangers traded Justin Smoak, Blake
Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matt Lawson to the
Seattle Mariners for Cliff Lee, Marke Lowe
and cash.
7-6-10:
Cliff was named the AL Pitcher of the Month
for June. He was 4-1 with a 1.76 ERA and
four complete games in six starts.
7-4-10:
Cliff was selected to the AL All-Star Team!
5-28-10:
Cliff picked up his 93 career win in his
200th major league game.
4-30-10:
Cliff was activated from the DL and made his
season debut.
4-25-10:
Cliff made a rehab start for AAA Tacoma.

3-17-10:
Cliff was suspended for five regular season
games for throwing at Arizona's Chris

12-16-09:
Cliff was traded to the Seattle Mariners for
minor leaguers Juan Ramirez, Phillippe
Aumont and Tyson Gillies.
11-6-09:
The Phillies picked up Cliff's contract
option for 2010.
11-2-09:
Cliff matched the Phillies record (Cole
Hamels in 2008) with his fourth win of the
postseason. He also joined Steve Carlton
(1980) as the only Philadelphia starters to
win two games in a single World Series.
10-28-09:
Cliff became the first pitcher since Don
Newcombe in 1949 to have 10 strikeouts, no
walks and no earned runs allowed in a World
Series game. He also became the first
pitcher to do that in back-to-back
postseason games. Lee became the first
left-handed starter to beat the Yankees in
Yankee Stadium in Game 1 of a World Series
since Sandy Koufax beat Whitey Ford in 1963
and he became the first pitcher in 26 years
to throw a World Series complete game in
which he struck out the first and last
hitter of the game.
10-21-09:
The Phillies Clinched the NL Pennant and a
trip to the World Series!
10-18-09:
Cliff became the first pitcher in postseason
history to have 10-plus strikeouts with no
walks while not allowing a run in a game!
10-12-09:
The Phillies beat Colorado three games to
one to advance to the NL Championship Series
against the LA Dodgers.
10-7-09:
Cliff threw a complete game to win his first
career playoff game in game 1 of the NLDS
versus Colorado. He also became the first
pitcher in Phillies history to steal a base
in the postseason!
10-1-09:
Cliff got his 900th career major league
strikeout against the Houston Astros.
9-30-09:
The Philadelphia Phillies clinched their
third straight NL East Championship!
9-15-09:
Cliff became just the sixth pitcher in MLB
history to win at least seven games in the
AL and the NL in one season.
7-31-09:
Cliff threw a complete game to win his first
game with Philadelphia. He also went 2-4
with a double and a run in the 5-1 victory
at San Francisco.
7-29-09:
Cliff was traded, along with Ben Francisco,
from Cleveland to Philadelphia for minor
leaguers Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald, Lou
Marson and Jason Knapp.
6-30-09:
Cliff got his 800th career major league
strikeout in a game vs. the White Sox.
5-3-09:
Cliff threw his 1,000th career major league
inning.
4-16-09:
Cliff was the starting and winning pitcher
for the Indians in the first ever game at
the new Yankee Stadium!
4-2-09:
Cliff ended spring training with a 0-3
record and a 12.46 ERA in 6 games.
1-21-09:
